I grew up in the rural town of Madelia, Minnesota, where I have one brother and one sister. I loved growing up in a small town. The best part was having almost any animal I wanted, as long as it wouldn't try to eat me. That’s why I had horses, baby sheep, a goat, dogs, cats, a raccoon, and even two skunks. I would walk the skunks around the park on leashes, and people loved it.
Later, I moved to Utah with my husband and children. I studied with the Institute of Children's Literature while freelancing for the Utah County Journal, writing for magazines, and dabbling in poetry. I took some time off from writing to enjoy raising my four children, which was well worth it. They have grown up to be wonderful adults.
I have always loved writing, and I want to inspire young readers to use their imagination and explore all kinds of books, whether fiction or nonfiction.
I believe in the power of storytelling—whether through the boundless imagination of fiction or the raw authenticity of non-fiction. Stories have the ability to inspire, educate, and connect us in ways that transcend time and space. My journey began with a deep passion for the written word, an insatiable curiosity for the human experience, and a desire to craft narratives that leave a lasting impact. From weaving compelling characters and intricate plots to uncovering real-life moments that deserve to be told, I am dedicated to sharing captivating tales that engage, move, and resonate with audiences across the world.
When I was in 5th grade, I told the librarian that I would read every horse story the school library had, and I did. At the end of the school year, the librarian gave me my horse book to keep. I told her Thank you and that one day I was going to write a book.
In high school a teacher that enjoyed my writing, would have me read my stories in front of the class and explain why my story was a well written Many thanks to these wonderful people who inspired me to keep on reading and to keep on writing.
